Newton F. Hamlin, CEO
Following graduate study in communications and business at Northwestern and University of Texas at Austin, Newt Hamlin joined ALCOA, rising to a senior management position in its aerospace division. Following a stint with appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation he founded his first company in 1971.
Over the next twenty years Newt founded a marketing/media firm in New Orleans; then another marketing firm, plus financial services and software companies in Dallas, all of which he ultimately sold to public companies or private investors. He moved to Austin in 1992.
Currently Newt serves as Managing Partner of BizTech LLC, which provides management, governance, fundraising and M&A services to U. S. companies, many based on intellectual property developed at American universities. He serves as active chairman of Texas Multicore Technologies, formed to commercialize a revolutionary software scripting tool developed by Texas Tech University for NASA that compiles to C++ as fully parallelized code, enabling effective use of multi-core processors. In addition Newt serves as a director and advisor to retail services, bioscience, information technology, aerospace, food products, and new media companies, and is helping resurrect the Windecker Eagle, the world’s first composite airplane. Newt served on the organizing board of a pre-seed venture capital fund tied to technologies from the Texas Tech University System; and is chairman of Group NIRE, the for-profit arm of the National Institute for Renewable Energy.
In the past Newt has founded, or served as CEO or director of private and public companies in the software, hardware, marketing consulting, financial services, bioscience, medical research, third party logistics and specialty foods industries. In 2005 he co-founded Westlake Securities, a leading Austin-based boutique investment bank. Separate from the investment bank Newt has been involved in raising more than $250 million in growth capital for private companies and has provided M&A advisory services for a dozen companies. His value proposition includes strong leadership and management, a clear understanding of sales and marketing, recruiting access to accomplished executives in every corporate function, access to capital resources, and a network of global and local leaders and advisors from nearly every industry.
Prior to his graduate studies Newt received a BA degree from Mississippi State University where he was an honor student active in many academic and leadership organizations. He has been a lifelong supporter of higher education initiatives, and has advised several universities. He is also an active supporter of community, healthcare, charity and arts initiatives. He has celebrated nearly 46 years of marriage to Dr. Judy L. Hamlin, who retired as a leading authority and author of 15 books pertaining to small group Bible study prior to launching her restaurant website FoodHawk.com.
